Image
My studio  interactive dolls and cabinet 2019 The ideas for the Poogies were born here.... The dolls were collected for upcycling but proved a great attraction for visitors Origins of the Tango Mango & Harvey Bramble story. Villains- the original illustration cutout for Victor Barco and  his dog tribe Silhouette for Poogieland , painted panel The two characters that started all this project idea. A pop art painting I created in 2018   Jump forward to August 2020.........   Building a map and assets for the world of Tango and Harvey Map of world Building assets is time consuming and immensely fun as a whole world from imagination has to somehow transfer to a visual image for a viewer or reader. I began creating the characters and back story drawings  in 2019 and refined or redefined  in 2020 combining what I think are characters that work well together.  Tango Mango was one of the original dog tribe members who I had developed as a heroic figure. ...

School Holiday Post 16 July 2020

Image
16 July 2020 things have been a bit quiet during the break but I am still creating and making. Catlin's Bush Fairy As a side project, a break from my project work and having some clay that needed using I made a little diorama scene with a fairy character.  I don't really go for those sugary type fairy creatures all pink and cute.  This little chap is of the New Zealand bush.  I have documented the process for reference.  Wire armature not done the normal way, pieces were connected with skewers and pieces of wire then the wing frames added.  The wing frames gave stability and made the posing easier.  The body is all clay without bulking material such as foil, this was because of the small size and time to bake estimated 135 degrees C for half an hour. As per the photos I began with a bust and built from there, I wanted the fairy to have character so made him look ancient and to be unique I added side burns and a series of plats in his hair.  Tw...

Collage exercises for "Now"and "Future".

Image
Collage exercises - June 19 2020 Collage 'Now'- Ït's later than you think" This collage is made up of magazine clippings, hessian, cardboard backing, corrugated cardboard strips to join over the hessian squares - pressed leaves from the park, feathers and a chalkboard tag with acrylic Moulton Metal translucent paints - coated with Mod Podge and gloss sealant.  "Future"collage - "Return to the Garden of Eden". made up of cardboard back, magazine pages, magazine clippings, feathers, vintage buttons, yarn and cotton wool/bandage - elements and a chalkboard tag. The two pieces hopefully complement each other - the Future work creates more of a picture whereas the Now work is a series of elements.    The biggest issues with the two collages were the cardboard stretching and in reflection I should have used a canvas board for backing. Covid-19 Collage exploration  Collage and multimedia work during lockdown 2020.  Not part of my c...

Exercise 9 - Soap making 12 June 2020

Exercise 09 - Why soap? 12 June 2020   1. a - How do we use soap? For general bathing hard or liquid soaps are applied directly to the hands or skin or on a wash cloth, loofah or scrubber. You can use a scrubbing brush to assist in hand and feet cleaning. Soaps are used in cleaning laundry both in the home and commercially. Liquid or powder form is the most common - dishwashers use powder or tabs. Soaps for personal hygiene can be applied directly to the skin or wash cloth/scrubber/brush. Then rinsed with water.   b. Substitutes for soaps I found a few: 1. gram flour to which you could add any of the following or a combination - sugar, lemon, honey, curd, milk or water and mix with water. 2. Multani mitti 3. sandalwood powder 4. coffee powder or used coffee grinds 5. oats 6. lemon 7. Alum powder - kills bacteria 8. salt 9. banana 10. oils 11. plain water and a scrubber Soapweed Yukka - plant based - crushed roots of plant foams ...

I really enjoy portraits as an expression of my illustrative style of drawing and painting.  Being a bit rusty and out of practice it is good to get my eye and hand back in.   'Venus' - materials - sage green scrapbook paper trimmed to fit the A4 journal I am using.  A selection of  black and white drawing pencils - Derwent are my choice.  Shaded with some charcoal then rubbed to blend.   progress of drawing. Mash of of styles and drawing materials - pencil and Copic marker - paper was not really appropriate but I made it work in the end.  Features were exaggerated and drawn fast, slow and different angles. White on dark paper drawing - very pleased with thi...
