TLC Drawing exercises and Collage portrait exploration 28 MAY 2020

TLC Drawing and Collage exercise explorations
25 - 28 May 2020

All images from freestock on Google or magazines fair use.  The briefs were given for each exercise which were black and white drawing on black and mid toned or colored papers.
I really enjoy portraits as an expression of my illustrative style of drawing and painting.  Being a bit rusty and out of practice it is good to get my eye and hand back in.

'Venus' - materials - sage green scrapbook paper trimmed to fit the A4 journal I am using.  A selection of  black and white drawing pencils - Derwent are my choice.  Shaded with some charcoal then rubbed to blend.

progress of drawing.

Mash of of styles and drawing materials - pencil and Copic marker - paper was not really appropriate but I made it work in the end.  Features were exaggerated and drawn fast, slow and different angles.

White on dark paper drawing - very pleased with this one - the reference image is below.

Exploring collage mash ups of portraits - I took it a step further and made fuller compositions due to the images I had.
All from a Frankie magazine and a Melbourne shopping magazine.

exaggerated features such as eyes and shoes - "Miss Pie Face 2020". "I'd like to thank the judges panel for awarding me the winners boquet...."   just  a bit of fun and whimsy.

"Oh baby!" what is happening here?  I'll let the viewer tell their own tale.  As a visual story teller collage is a fascinating medium to tell a yarn.

"I spy" angel or devil - you decide.

Sorry Meryll Streep - I couldn't help myself, this could mean something about an actress playing roles and never really revealing her true self to the viewer.

Images ready to play with.
