TLC Drawing and Collage exercise explorations 25 - 28 May 2020 All images from freestock on Google or magazines fair use.  The briefs were given for each exercise which were black and white drawing on black and mid toned or colored papers. I really enjoy portraits as an expression of my illustrative style of drawing and painting.  Being a bit rusty and out of practice it is good to get my eye and hand back in.   'Venus' - materials - sage green scrapbook paper trimmed to fit the A4 journal I am using.  A selection of  black and white drawing pencils - Derwent are my choice.  Shaded with some charcoal then rubbed to blend.   progress of drawing. Mash of of styles and drawing materials - pencil and Copic marker - paper was not really appropriate but I made it work in the end.  Features were exaggerated and drawn fast, slow and different angles. Analogue Emotions series of paintings 25 May 2020

Analogue Paintings to show emotions or feelings    MATERIALS A3 watercolour paper Watercolor pencils Indian Ink  brushes Fine liner pen for detail Working in my illustrative style and exploring my story telling theme I sketched and painted four panels of random emotions or feelings.   UNITY Unity - shows the group of three as a united trio - these are the heroes and stars.  Although not really conventional the three figures form a group that is meant to be together. JOY/HAPPINESS These emotions are shown with colour and content - Tango give a Poogie a ride in a balloon.   LONELINESS  Baby Tango is lost in the woods and terribly lonely - the dark forest should be enough to portray a hostile environment. ANXIETY Is the dragon friend or foe?  Tango was not expecting to see a dragon and is unsure if it is friendly or hostile.  I tried to use subtle muted colors and no background or detail in the environment.

TLC Exercise continued 18-23 May 2020 I have been working through the exercises in my TLC course - its good to pick up simple materials such as crayon, Indian ink and charcoal sticks  for drawing.   Negative space drawing with charcoal from photograph negative space drawing with charcoal from photograph Non dominant hand drawing in crayon and Indian ink - I like the effect - it makes you use your eyes to see what you are doing. this was a fun exercise - get an image and turn it upside down then try to draw it.    there is a bit of distribution but the effect is quite pleasing in charcoal. the image right side up shows the distortion effect of drawing on a flat surface and working upside down exercise in drawing a  Portia - images from a Fantasy art book.   Photos from artist's own collection and free images sourced from Google.

TLC - week one 18 May 2020 Exercise One Creating a mind map for project ideas  18/05/2020 Mind map for project idea and brainstorming - as an intuitive artist I find mind maps helpful as a non linear flow of ideas.  Some may go no further than the page but others can be a starting point. Visual Diary - Journal entry from Exercise two  -  19/05/2020 This was a fun exercise in scale and working with thumbnails which are very handy for story boarding.
