Portfolio and Proposal
Proposal for study
After completing three years and achieving my Bachelor of Visual Arts I would like to take my third year project to another level and explore the possibilities of trans media platforms to develop and animate a character based on one of the static ones produced. There had been a backstory for Tango Mango and the Poogies but had never been formally written down. I have been working on this over the summer as it could form the basis for a published book and in digital format or as an interactive book for all ages.
Animation would take the form of stop motion from a handmade character and settings. I would like to try a combination of puppet animation and cut-out animation to form a short film.
Creative play formed a major component of my study in 2019, I would also like to use this as a way to solve problems and assist the creative process of my work. I am keen on using basic equipment that is available to everyone such as an iPhone or iPad and my own Canon DSLR camera. SIT would hopefully be able to provide suitable software, studio space and technical advice where needed as I do not really have a suitable space at home to set up and leave for filming. I used editing software in year one and two to create simple animations so have some basic knowledge.
I would also like to explore the idea of a board game based on my story, this would really make the project a true trans media experience. I am not yet sure how I will do this, but would like it to be handmade.
I envisage being able to project a short film accompanied by characters, a book and a game. This would help establish my brand and explore what can be exhibited to the public in a gallery space either traditional or non traditional.
I intend to continue working each Wednesday afternoon at the Activity Centre for 2.5 hours a week. The staff commented that the children enjoyed my activities during the year so I think if I can make a small difference in their personal journey I would like to carry on.
I have included a selection of images from my body of work - relevant to the project. I have included a couple of short films I made, one stop motion with my canon camera and one freelance taken from my iphone and edited through Adobe Premiere.
