BVA312 Art History first blog feb 2019
Week One
What do I know about the 17th to 20th Centuries of art?
I think that my knowledge of art history over my time here at SIT included New Zealand, Australian,
Pasifika, China, Korea and Japan as well as art from America. We have a brief over view of ancient art that covered Roman and Greek architecture and sculpture as well as early paintings.

What is my favourite era?
My favourite eras are Romantic/Victorian especially the illustrators and Surrealism (early through to modern) and Pop art.
Who is my favourite artist?
One of my favourite artists is currently Lenora Carrington. But I like many artists including Arthur Rackham & Peter Blake.
What would I like to learn?
Anything that will help with my third year project, I think that there are many art movements and artists yet to be discovered and some I would like to learn more about. Especially illustrators and sculptors.
How do these artists relate to my own practice?
As storytelling is my theme for 2019 I look to artists and movements that will support this, so illustrators, sculptors and painters are all important. Carrington for the dreamscapes and also her personal journey, Rackham for his illustrations and I consider one of the pioneers of the graphic novel.
